 June 10, 2021
With the purpose of sharing the advances of research and encouraging future work among the academic community, students and researchers from all over the world met in the First Workshop on Hyperbolic Geometry.

The activity was carried out within the framework of the collaboration grant between the City University of New York Graduate Center Mathematics Program (CUNY-USA) and the Research Center Geometry at the Frontier (UFRO). Thus, for 3 days, six researchers from universities in Canada, Chile, Spain, United States, France and Mexico presented their research work in the field of [View more...]

Great success on the South-North Latin American Workshop on Geometry I.
 May 31, 2021
During the 26th, 27th and 28th of May 2021, successfully brought the first workshop "South-North Latin American Workshop on Geometry", organized by Research Center "Geometry at the Frontier" (UFRO, Chile) and the Centro de Investigación Matemática (CIMAT, México), under an International Cooperation Network project financed by ANID. [View more...]

Dr. Alice Garbagnati at Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy) gave the talk “Manifolds with trivial canonical bundle: automorphisms and quotients" at our seminar.
 May 14, 2021
In a new edition of the "Cruz del Sur" seminar, Dr. Garbagnati talked about tori, Calabi-Yau and hyperkahler manifolds where he used some specific techniques to analyze these varieties. In this study described general results and constructions where it was observed that there are strong relations between different kinds of manifolds with trivial canonical bundle, in particular related with the quotients by certain automorphisms. Finally, she used a special case of hyperkahler 4-folds and of their automorphisms to describe some of their quotients.

Geometry at the Frontier consolidates its international presence in mathematics with the edition of a volume in the prestigious series "CONTEMPORARY MATHEMATICS" of the American Mathematical Society (AMS).
 Apr 20, 2021
Considered one of the most relevant mathematical societies in the world, the American Mathematical Society (AMS), after evaluating and approving the academic material presented by the researchers of the center, has decided to convert this work into volume 766 of the series Contemporary Mathematics [View more...]

Dr. Emilio Lauret at Universidad Nacional del Sur, Bahía Blanca (Argentina) gave the talk “Can one hear the shape of a drum?".
 Jan 22, 2021
Dr. Lauret told us about spectral geometry through the problem introduced by Mark Kac of 1966 entitled "Can one hear the shape of a drum?". In this talk, Dr. Lauret reviewed history, discussed numerous examples of isospectral Riemannian manifolds, and explained to what extent spectral information determines geometry.

Researchers at the center Geometry at the Frontier obtains MATH AmSud grant in joint with Universities of Argentina, Brazil and France.
 Jan 08, 2021
MATH-AmSud is an initiative of French cooperation and its partners in countries in South America. Its objective is to promote and strengthen collaboration and the creation of research and development in the field of Mathematics, through researcher mobility, in order to implement joint research projects.  The grant entitled "Algebraic and geometric aspects of varieties and manifolds" is led by the research teams [View more...]

Dr. Ángel Carocca, researcher at Center Geometry at the Frontier, gave the talk “Galois group of pq-covers" in the first session of the year of the Cruz del Sur Seminar.
 Jan 07, 2021
Dr. Carocca presented Galois group of factorized covers (φ o ψ), where ψ is a cyclic étale cover of degree q and φ is a branched covering of degree pq for any pair of prime numbers and p odd.

Dr. Pietro Speziali at University of São Paulo gave the talk “Algebraic curves with automorphism groups of large prime order" at our seminar.
 Dec 11, 2020
In the last edition of the 2020 "Cruz del Sur" seminar, Dr. Speziali talked about the characterization of the full automorphism groups of q-curves for q = 2g + 1, g + 1 in any characteristic. In this talk, based on a joint work with Nazar Arakelian gave the analogous classification for (g + 1)-curves, including a characterization of hyperelliptic (g + 1)-curves, where they make use of two different techniques obtaining some partial results on the classification of q-curves for q = g, g − 1. Dr. Speziali also presented some challenges of studying automorphism groups of algebraic curves in positive characteristic.

Dr. Alicia Dickenstein at University of Buenos Aires. gave the talk “Iterated sparse discriminants and singular intersections of hypersurfaces" at our seminar.
 Dec 04, 2020
Dr. Dickenstein presented a general framework of iterated sparse discriminants to characterize the singular intersection of hypersurfaces with a given monomial support A, which generalizes the situacions that were applied in the papers by Schlfli (1953) and Farouki et al. (1989). This research was developed in conjunction with S. di Rocco and R. Morrison, who studied the connection of iterated discriminants with the notion of mixed discriminant and the singularities of the sparse discriminant associated to A.

With great success was carried out the first workshop on Algebraic Geometry organized by the University of La Frontera in joint with the University of Poitiers.
 Nov 23, 2020
The activity relied on the assistance of researchers and also students, who shaped a group of more than 50 participants; a number considered as “highly successful”.

In the framework the project entitled "Geometry of K3 surfaces" (ecos190030) of the ECOS-ANID scientific cooperation programme, the first workshop in Algebraic Geometry was held on 12 and 19 November, event organized between the Laboratoire de Mathématiques et Applications (University of Poitiers, France) and the Research Center Geometry at the Frontier (Universidad de la Frontera, Temuco, Chile)... Dr. Rodrigo Hernández at Adolfo Ibáñez University. gave the talk “Convex Mappings" at our seminar.
 Oct 16, 2020

In this talk, Dr. Hernández approached convex harmonic functions from an analytical point of view. In particular, in the functions ranging from disk over a convex domain of the complex plane (described analytically).

Dr. Francisco Cuevas at University of Quebec at Montreal, Canada. gave the talk “Log Gaussian Cox processes on the sphere" at our seminar.
 Oct 09, 2020

In a new edition of the "Cruz del Sur" seminar, Dr. Cuevas talked about Log Gaussian Cox processes to study clustered point patterns in a sphere. This study has been of great interest to various areas of science and few tools have been developed. Dr. Cuevas applied this process to model the sky positions of galaxies, to make comparisons with Thomas process in the sphere and decide through validation which process best fits the data.
